Carolina Ayala Aguilar
Born in Mexico City in 1986, Carolina is a Mexican artist and designer living in Yucatan, Mexico. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a Master’s in Product Design and Innovation from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico. She also earned a Master of Science in Architectural Lighting Design from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. There, she focused on using the rendering of light in watercolor to tell stories of forced migration from Syria to Sweden. This experience heightened her awareness of the power of art to make essential issues visible. After working as an architect in Germany, she returned to Mexico, where the pandemic helped her realize that expressing herself on canvas was her priority.
In 2021, she was a finalist in the Camaradas Mex-UK Art Competition, organized by the Mexican Embassy in the United Kingdom, and a year later, Carolina joined the exhibition “Migrar, todas las miradas” at the Museum of the City of Mérida. Also, in 2022, her exhibition and talk, “Death and Other Realities in Art,” took place.
She has participated in group shows in Merida, with the Van Gogh Art Gallery in Madrid, and in the International Contemporary Art Fair Monaco in 2023. She has taken watercolor workshops with artist Agustín González and a permanent acrylic painting workshop with artist Ariel Guzmán. Beyond these experiences, she is driven by a desire to continue expressing the existence of other worlds and realities, a quest that adds a profound dimension to her art.
